Hello everyone who loves turn-based strategy games, and especially the Heroes of Might and Magic series! A new game is coming soon – Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, and we, want to tell you about its most interesting features. The developers promise to bring back the very atmosphere we love from the old games in the series, especially Heroes III, but at the same time, they will add a lot of new and exciting things.
Many of us have spent a lot of time exploring magical maps, building castles, and fighting enemies in Heroes. And now, a new adventure awaits us in the world of Might and Magic, but on a new continent – Jadame.
In Heroes Olden Era, we will travel to the continent of Jadame. This place was only mentioned before, but now it will become the main battlefield for six different factions. It's as if we are entering a familiar world, but into a completely new part of it, where unexplored lands, new creatures, and secrets await us.
The game's plot will be non-linear. This means that our decisions will affect how the story develops and what happens to the heroes and entire kingdoms. The main enemy will be the Swarm – an army of insect-like demons obeying the forces of evil. To survive, even warring factions will be forced to unite.
The events of Olden Era take place earlier than in the first Heroes of Might and Magic game. It's like a prequel that will tell us about what happened before in this magical world; perhaps we will even meet ancestors of familiar heroes.
One of the most interesting new features in Heroes Olden Era is the "Laws of Factions". So far, the details are kept secret, but it is already clear that each of the six factions will have its own unique rules that will affect the game.
For example, each faction may have its own peculiarities of castle development, its own unique troops, special spells, or even completely different strategies on the world map.
Recall how in the old games, each faction was strong in its own way. In Olden Era, this will be even more noticeable. For example, Necropolis (undead) may gain strength from defeated enemies, raising them into their army. The Hive (insect demons) may rapidly increase its numbers but be vulnerable to certain types of magic. The Sylvan (elves and forces of nature) may receive bonuses while on forest territories.
The "Laws of Factions" will make each game for a new faction completely special. We will have to learn to play by new rules to win. This will definitely add interest to the game and make us return to it again and again.
Another important innovation is that units and heroes will have active abilities. In the old games, units mainly had passive skills (for example, an increase in attack power). Now, we will be able to use special abilities directly during battle.
Imagine a griffin from the Temple faction being able to quickly swoop down on an enemy and attack several units at once, or a dark elf from the Dungeon being able to immobilize an enemy warrior. Active abilities will give us more control over the course of the battle and allow us to come up with more complex tactical moves.
For example, Hive troops will be able to move quickly across the battlefield or poison enemies. Heroes will be able to use not only spells but also their unique skills, for example, strengthening their warriors or summoning additional creatures into battle.
Active abilities will make battles in Heroes Olden Era more interesting and diverse. We will have to carefully study the skills of each unit and hero to win battles.
The ability to choose one of two development paths for each unit will return in Heroes Olden Era. This feature was already in Heroes V and was liked by many players. Now we will have more options when creating our army.
For example, when upgrading an ordinary archer, we can choose whether it will become stronger in attack or gain some additional ability, for example, the ability to shoot poisoned arrows.
Each faction will have its own unique upgrade chains that will correspond to its characteristics. This will allow us to create armies that best suit our playstyle and strategy.
The ability to choose the path of unit development makes the game more flexible and interesting, as we will have to make important decisions about exactly how to develop our army.
All these changes show that the developers of Heroes Olden Era really love the old games in the series and want to make the new game just as interesting and exciting, while adding something new to it.
The return to 2D graphics, turn-based battles, and many other familiar elements is combined with new ideas such as the "Laws of Factions" and active abilities. This gives hope that Heroes Olden Era will be a worthy continuation of the legendary series and will appeal to both old and new players.
We only have to wait for the game to be released to try everything ourselves and decide whether the developers managed to bring back the magic of Heroes of Might and Magic. Are you waiting for this game? What seems most interesting to you?
